RESUMO Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo principal explicitar o discurso enunciado por trabalhadores do Comupra, uma ONG de Belo Horizonte, sobre a relação sentido positivo/prazer e negativo/sofrimento do trabalho. Acompanhando a literatura revista no referencial teórico, este estudo considera o trabalho como central na vida dos indivíduos e da sociedade. Um dos seus campos de expansão atualmente é o Terceiro Setor, ainda pouco estudado. Esta pesquisa, de natureza descritiva e abordagem qualitativa, que teve como instrumento de coleta de dados a entrevista semi-estruturada, procurou contribuir para uma maior compreensão sobre a questão do sentido do trabalho no Terceiro Setor. Investigou especificamente uma ONG que atua com trabalho comunitário. O tratamento das informações foi feito utilizando-se a análise do discurso. Foram realizadas entrevistas com seis trabalhadores do Comupra, cujas análises revelaram que o sentido positivo do trabalho tem predominância sobre o negativo. As vivências que promovem o prazer são mais significativas do que aquelas que causam o sofrimento, mostrando que a escolha por trabalhar no Terceiro Setor está associada a uma expectativa de transformação pessoal e da comunidade. Ou seja, trabalha-se por uma causa pessoal e social.

ABSTRACT This research work has as main objective to make explicit the discourse enunciated by the workers of the Comupra, a Non-governmental Organization – NGO, about the positive/pleasure or negative/suffering meaning they attribute to their work. Following the adopted theoretical referential, this study considers the work as something central in individual and societal lives. The research work was qualitative and descriptive. The main tool for data collection was the semi-structured interview. The aim was to contribute for a better comprehension about the meaning of the work in the third sector (NGOs). It was investigated a NGO of community origin. The obtained information was treated by means of discourse analysis. Six workers of the Comupra were interviewed. The analyses showed that the positive meaning of the work surpass the negative meaning. The situations in which pleasure occurs are taken as more important than those provoking suffering, showing that the choice for working in the third sector is strongly associated to an expectation of individual and community changes. In other words, the workers labor for a personal and a social cause.
