RESUMO As instituições hospitalares, além da saúde dos pacientes, precisam zelar também pela saúde da organização. Este trabalho descreve e analisa os resultados de uma pesquisa qualitativa realizada com administradores de organizações de saúde e médicos proprietários, visando identificar em que medida alguns elementos, tanto da prática médica como da natureza das organizações, contribuem para a maior participação dos profissionais médicos no posicionamento estratégico das instituições de saúde. Desenvolve-se uma análise comparativa no que diz respeito às motivações e aos aspectos inibidores identificados nas relações, tendo como foco as singularidades que envolvem tanto o médico quanto a complexidade das organizações de saúde. Os resultados apontam que a gestão destes profissionais de administração hospitalar, possuidores do conhecimento técnico no âmbito das organizações hospitalares, exige novos referenciais, de forma a contemplar algumas singularidades que representam um aspecto importante na montagem estratégica das organizações de saúde, visando torná-las mais competitivas.

ABSTRACT Besides keeping their patients health, The hospital institutions have to keep also their owns organization health. The present essay shows the conclusions of a qualitative research which was made with health care organizations manager and medical doctors pointing out to what extent some elements contributive so as the medical practice as the organization nature to a greater participation of professional doctors in the strategical position taking inside the health care institutions. The study presents a comparative analysis as far as the motivations and the inhibiting aspects identified in these relations ail concerned focusing the peculiarities which involve the doctor himself and the complexity of the organizations, as well the results high light that the management of these hospitals professional managers who posses a wide and technical knowledge of hospital organizations demands new guidelines, in order to contemplate some peculiarities which represent an important aspect in the strategic setting up of health organizations , aiming at turning them more competitive.
