RESUMO: O corpo feminino, historicamente, reteve as marcas da inferioridade, exclusão e
subordinação e esteve regulado por valores e normas de ordem moral, estética e
científica. O carnaval é considerado uma festa que liberta as tendências individuais,
geralmente, controladas, fazendo desaparecer as desigualdades, como também pode ser
visto como um movimento social e ato político ou manifestação de resistência, mediada
por intersecções de gênero. Esta dissertação objetivou compreender as representações
do corpo feminino no contexto do carnaval de Belo Horizonte, sob a perspectiva das
mulheres que participam ativamente do evento. As teorias, que deram suporte a esta
pesquisa, foram Imagem Corporal e Gênero, assim como O Corpo e o Patriarcado.
Metodologicamente, caracterizou-se como uma pesquisa descritiva, de abordagem
qualitativa, na qual usou-se a entrevista semiestruturada como estratégia de coleta de
dados. Para a análise dos dados, realizou-se a técnica de análise de conteúdo,
abarcando os seguintes códigos analíticos que representam os objetivos específicos
desta dissertação: (i) Representatividade do corpo feminino no carnaval, analisada em
três categorias: Protagonismo, Permissividade e Resistência; (ii) Corpo feminino e
Patriarcado no carnaval, decomposta em quatro categorias: Relações de Poder, Padrão
de Beleza e Objetificação e Erotização; e (iii) Representatividade em outros contextos,
composta pela categoria carnaval Político. Observou-se uma eclosão da representação
do corpo feminino nas ruas durante o festejo carnavalesco, reflexo do movimento
feminista como discurso contestatório que é praticado nos blocos de rua com viés político
do carnaval de Belo Horizonte, no qual apresenta caráter híbrido, de protesto e festa,
emergindo movimentos de resistência às opressões e restrições sujeitadas por este corpo
na sociedade patriarcal. Identificou-se que as mulheres têm ocupado espaços importantes
e representativos, anteriormente não ocupados, o que vem rompendo determinações
estruturadas pelo conceito de gênero. Ressalta-se a importância de mais investimento do
poder público no carnaval e de se pensar políticas públicas que valorizem as pessoas que
trabalham na construção dos blocos durante todo ano, a fim de se trazer um desfile
atrativo, seguro e manter a essência desse movimento político-social. Discutir sobre esta
temática contribui para desnaturalizar a existência feminina de subordinação e de
objetificação pelos homens e até por elas mesmas, especialmente em um cenário que é
culturalmente considerado de exibição deste corpo como objeto de desejo. Da mesma
maneira que destaca a importância dos movimentos feministas pela igualdade de gênero
dando a elas voz, pois, mesmo sendo a maioria, são estruturadas em instituições sociais
como se fossem a minoria.

ABSTRACT: The female body, historically, retained the marks of inferiority, exclusion, and
subordination and was regulated by values and norms of a moral, aesthetic, and scientific
order. Carnival is considered a party that frees individual tendencies, generally controlled,
making inequalities disappear, as well as being seen as a social movement and political
act or manifestation of resistance, mediated by gender intersections. This dissertation
aimed to understand the representations of the female body in the context of the Belo
Horizonte carnival, from the perspective of women who actively participate in the event.
The theories that supported this research were Corporal Image and Gender, as well as
The Body and Patriarchy. Methodologically, it was characterized as descriptive research,
with a qualitative approach, in which an in-depth interview was used as a data collection
strategy. For data analysis, the content analysis technique was performed, covering the
following analytical codes that represent the specific objectives of this dissertation: (i)
Representation of the female body in carnival, analyzed in three categories: Protagonism,
Permissiveness, and Resistance; (ii) Female Body and Patriarchy in Carnival, broken
down into four categories: Power Relations, Beauty Standard and Objectification and
Erotization; and (iii) Representativeness in other contexts, comprising the Political Carnival
category. There was an outbreak of representation of the female body in the streets during
the carnival celebration, a reflection of the feminist movement as a contestatory discourse
that is practiced in the street blocks with a political bias in the Belo Horizonte carnival, in
which it presents a hybrid character, of protest and party, emerging movements of
resistance to the oppression and restrictions subjected by this body in the patriarchal
society. It was identified that women have occupied important and representative spaces,
previously unoccupied, which has been breaking determinations structured by the concept
of gender. It emphasizes the importance of more investment by the government in carnival
and of devising public policies that value the people who work in the construction of the
blocks throughout the year, to bring an attractive, safe parade and maintain the essence of
this sociopolitical movement. Discussing this theme contributes to denaturalize the female
existence of subordination and objectification by men and even by themselves, especially
in a scenario that is culturally considered to display this body as an object of desire. In the
same way, it highlights the importance of feminist movements for gender equality giving
them a voice, because, even though they are the majority, they are structured in social
institutions as if they were the minority.
