Abstract: The feminist movement was intended to break with the principles of male domination, which were marked by the sexual differences that determined the construction and condition of man and woman in society by structuring and organizing society, with precepts established in male hegemony, as something natural and Indisputable. From the conquering conquests of this movement, the woman entered all segments of the world of work, making it inevitable that they occupied positions that were originally exclusive to the masculine universe, among them the position of chef de cuisine. However, the insertion of the woman in this universe brought with it a series of questions still camouflaged in the relation man x woman within the professional kitchen. Thus, the general objective of this study is to identify how possible practices are produced and reproduced that support the system of male domination, in relation to the performance of women in the professional kitchen environment, from the perspective of chefs and chefs. This is a qualitative and descriptive research. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Nine female chefs and nine male chefs were interviewed, totaling 18 chefs from several restaurants in the city of Belo Horizonte. The data were analyzed using the technique of content analysis proposed by Bardin. It was identified that the professional kitchen is still dominated by the masculine figure, which is due to the fact that there is a (re) signification of the performance of the man in that environment. The results indicate that despite advances in terms of gender equality in the social and organizational environment, there are still significant remnants of male domination and the hegemony of the chef in relation to the chef. All the difficulties imposed on women in this sector, from the claim that the woman does not possess sufficient physical strength, even the harassment to which they are subjected, are practices that sustain male domination in this area. The difficulty in being a woman in such a profession is precisely being a woman and all the issues inherent in womanhood. However, it was possible to perceive that there is a change in what refers to the performance of women in the environment, and what barriers are being broken and prejudices overcome.
